Abstract
This paper investigates the adoption of average current mode control to achieve adaptive voltage positioning for low voltage, high current step down voltage regulators. Analytical results are first presented followed by experimental and simulation verification to validate the theoretical study with good correlation. The study reported in this paper demonstrates that average current mode control, which possesses a number of advantages over peak current mode control in multi-phase voltage regulator applications, is a viable alternative for adaptive voltage positioning in low to mid-range performance applications.
