Abstract :
Most of the mesh simplification algorithm use a distance metric as simplification criteria. The geometric distance metric is good to measure geometric error between original mesh and the result. However it is easy to lose the major characteristics of the simplified model. In this paper we proposed the use of shape feature to improve the quadric error metric of vertex pair contraction and preserve the shape of the mesh. The experiment results demonstrate the proposed method can preserve the feature of the mesh efficiently
