  • Abstract
An overview of hybrid electric vehicle technology is presented. This encapsulates factors that necessitate the development of hybrid electric vehicles, classifications of hybrid electric vehicles based on the arrangement of the internal combustion engine and the electric motor for traction. The types of batteries required and the use of power electronic converters for effective power processing and utilization in hybrid electric vehicle drive is covered. Also the strengths and weaknesses of various types of specialized electrical motors for traction drive in hybrid electric vehicles are treated.
