Abstract :
An extremely compact and low-cost antenna with two complementary quasi-omnidirectional radiation patterns is reported. The antenna is composed of a monopole at the center of an annular slot antenna (ASA). An experimental prototype of the antenna working in the 5 GHz WLAN band is designed and tested. Despite the physical proximity of the two radiators, an isolation better than 22 dB over 480 MHz is measured, while the radiation patterns of the monopole and the ASA are very slightly perturbed by the presence of the other radiator. The obtained design is well suited for the realization of a very compact pattern diversity antenna.
