Abstract :
Summary form only given. We have investigated the femtosecond nonlinear dynamics of PbTe quantum dots grown in a glass matrix and observed impulsive excitation of acoustic resonances of the dots. We have further studied the wavelength dependence of the amplitude, frequency, and damping rate of these phonons. Such data, in conjunction with absorption spectra and femtosecond spectroscopic studies, may provide a new and interesting method for evaluating the size distributions of nanocrystallites.
