Abstract :
Summary form only given. Photon energy introduced a new ps-laser “CEPHEUS” with pulse duration of 10ps and max. average power of 12W. The repetition rate can be set from single shot up to 500 kHz.We combined the CEPHEUS with a scanning head and flat field lens in a typical marking system setup. Using a short focal lens (f=55mm) we were able to demonstrate typical micromachining applications like structuring of Si, cutting of thin metal foils, cutting of glass. Besides from high definition patterning applications the ps-laser can also be used in combination with longer focal length lenses. Evidently the behavior of the material interaction by ps laser irradiation is different compared to ns-pulses.
