Abstract :
Avionics applications of terrain databases will, by virtue of flight critical aspects, necessarily require guaranteed minimum acceptable frame rate and latency performance. In order to meet these requirements, the real-time processing of onboard avionics databases will require sophisticated algorithms to reduce and manage database load posed by large terrain and airport data sets. Multiresolution surface algorithms may be best suited for this task because they can extract surface information at various levels of detail from a large geographic terrain database in real-time
