Abstract
In this paper, the past, current and future of the modeling of non-smooth gear transmission dynamic systems are reviewed. The general concepts for the modeling of non-smooth gear transmission dynamical systems are presented. In this mechanical model, the impact and sliding friction with oil lubrication are considered in gear transmission dynamical systems. The local singularity caused by the discontinuities of the gear transmission dynamical systems is discussed. The mapping technique is adopted to analytically determine periodic motions with impacts and frictions. The fragmentation of strange attractors in such a gear transmission dynamical system is briefly discussed due to grazing and sliding.
