  • Abstract
The focused peak intensity of the multiterawatt laser pulse is determined by comparing the measured ion production curve for Ar/sup 9+/ with the ADK theory. The results of these measurements of optical field ionization indicate that the maximum peak intensity is /spl sim/2/spl times/10/sup 19/ W/cm/sup 2/.
