Abstract
A generalized model for resonant and nonresonant converters is proposed which allows the systematic exploration of circuits using a given number (n=0 to infinity) of AC (reactive) energy storage elements. The method is simple, intuitive and is particularly useful for resonant converters. By way of illustration, the process is applied to the family of two-AC-element resonant converters to determine if any undiscovered circuits exist. Examples are also given for the important three-element family of resonant converters.<>
