  • Abstract
The need for a DFE (Design for environment) infrastructure is discussed along with structural factors necessitating a DFE infrastructure. It is concluded that it is becoming apparent that the degree to which DFE efforts can proceed is dependent upon development of a national or, preferably, international DFE infrastructure to support development and implementation of DFE methodologies. It is suggested that it is now time for national governments, in close cooperation with industry, to initiate programs to identify the elements required in a DFE infrastructure, and begin working aggressively to provide such an infrastructure. Partnering among stakeholders, including environmental groups, both in the United States and in other nations, especially the European Community and Japan, should be integral to any such effort
