Abstract :
In this paper, a novel quasi-dipole antenna together with a new type of microstrip feed network is presented. The antenna is realized by stacking two substrate layers which are separated by a common ground board. The quasi-dipole, of which the two arms can be of any reasonable shape, are printed on double sides of the upper substrate and fed by a coaxial cable. The antenna exhibits a small size and a good overall performance in terms of wide band, high gain, low cross polarization level and low backward radiation. To verify the design, the elements are used to form a 4 times 8 array by designing a novel microstrip feed network, in which quasi-orthogonal feed lines are employed and simplified by combining parallel and serial feeding technologies. Excellent correlation between the simulated and measured results shows that it is a good candidate in large array antennas for satellite communication applications.
