Abstract :
Documents (e.g., manuals) are usually prepared on a computer, and are managed and employed in each organization. Sophisticated facilities of creating, editing, and managing documents are strongly required. As one of the approaches toward this, we have been investigating a multimedia document management model with the capability of evolving system behavior. In this paper, we present a business card creation support system as one practical application of the model. The system manages aesthetic rules in an XML database and determines the business card layout by using genetic algorithm. A facility allowing the user to edit the layout interactively is also provided.
