Abstract
This paper describes the design of a single layer dual band tuneable EBG. The design is made up of wideband bowtie elements with varactor diodes at the centre of the bowties. It is shown, through electromagnetic simulation that the EBG can tune over two distinct frequency ranges (1300-1900 MHz and 2200-2900 MHz) independently. The thickness of this EBG is lambda/144 at the lowest operating frequency. Also presented are the measured radiation patterns of a double layer EBG, which covers the frequency ranges 700-1200 MHz and 1700-2600 MHz.
