Abstract
This paper reviews the application of a distributed fiber strain sensor (a Brillouin optical time domain reflectometer) to three structures: concrete beam bending strain measurement, river levee change detection, and monitoring of an America´s Cup yacht. The results suggest that this approach is useful for realizing smart structures.
