Abstract :
This paper reports on miniaturization of a pulsed power generator (PPG) with a magnetic pulse compression circuit (MPC). In the point of view of volume and performance of the miniature PPG, discrete ceramic capacitors are used and the core materials of Fe-based nanocrystalline with a high magnetic flux swing and Co-based amorphous with a high permeability are compared. Losses of components are sensitive to increase the energy transfer efficiency. The developed PPG has a two-stage MPC with 0.2 J/pulse. The Fe-based nanocrystalline at the first stage of the MPC and the Co-based amorphous cores at the second stage are selected. The parallel connection of low resistance capacitors is valid to increase the energy transfer efficiency. As the result, the 12.0 kV pulse with a risetime less than 30 ns is obtained. The size of PPG is a B5 paper (260×200×70 mm) size.
