  • Abstract
Advanced aircraft will require that inertial information be available continuously and deliver acceptable performance despite aircraft maneuvers, fuel burn off, changing stores configurations, and subsequent structural bending. A trade study was performed to evaluate architecture concepts against more traditional approaches which rely on dedicated sensors optimized for specific applications. The concept of using differential inertial filters (DIFs) to estimate aircraft flexure was developed and evaluated using analysis, simulation and King Air flight tests. Results from the architecture trade study and DIF evaluation results were used to select a recommended architecture and identify integrated inertial network (IIN) benefits. Culmination of the program resulted in the development of a technology roadmap describing the research and development efforts required to ensure successful implementation in a military aircraft
