Abstract :
The Litton Land Navigator LLN-95 is an inertial/GPS system based on modular fibre optic gyro (FOG) strapdown technology designed by LITEF GmbH and LITTON Italia S.p.A. for land vehicle applications. The LLN-95 is a hybrid navigation system which uses the navigation data from: a closed loop FOG for vehicle rate measurement; a level sensor module for level measurement; GPS for vehicle position and velocity; a vehicle odometer for velocity. This data is integrated in a Kalman filter which delivers vehicle heading and position. Processing of waypoint information is also performed. The man-machine interface uses a separate control and display unit (CDU). Prototypes were built in 1993 and successfully completed with better accuracy than specified. The modular design allows for the use of accelerometers and more accurate FOGs to meet higher performance requirements such as heading self alignment if later required
