  • Abstract
    An image enhancement technique is presented which adopts a fuzzy logic approach and is based on the FIRE operator. FIRE (fuzzy inference ruled by else-action) operators are a recently introduced family of nonlinear operators which process image data by resorting to fuzzy rules. The proposed operator suitably combines sharpening and smoothing rules as well, it is able to enhance the quality of an image by using a very small rulebase. Key aspects of the proposed approach are its relative simplicity and a particular fuzzy inference mechanism which permit an easy design with very satisfactory performances
