            Abstract : 
Text detection plays a crucial role in various applications. In this paper we present an edge based text detection technique in the complex images for multi purpose application. The technique applied vertical Sobel edge detection and a newly proposed morphological technique that used to connect the edges to form the candidate regions. The technique has special advantage, by providing a distinguishable texture on the text area over the others. The connected components are then extracted using a purposed segmentation algorithm. Later all the candidate regions are verified to specify the text region. The propose techniques has been tested with different types of image acquired from different input sources and environment.
