  • Abstract
Although the encoded PALplus signal has compatibility with standard PAL receivers, compatibility in the studio with broadcast PAL facilities is limited. The preferred wide-screen studio format is digital component and the options for a production standard are discussed. A large installed base of PAL production facilities in Europe cannot be replaced with component technology in the short term. Consequently there is need for alternative wide-screen introductory scenarios, and solutions based on Clean PAL systems are discussed. Current and future options for wide-screen signals are briefly reviewed
