Abstract
An increased emphasis by computer manufacturers on designing for the environment (DFE) is resulting in the development of new products with improved environmental attributes. These successes are possible, in part, by manufacturers´ ability to develop and integrate effective corporate and product environmental goals, requirements, and practices into product development and manufacturing processes. Another part of any environmentally conscious products (ECP) program is the establishment of corporate ECP program and product metrics as a means of assessing progress being made toward meeting these goals and requirements. This paper describes some of the goals and requirements. IBM has integrated into its product development process. Corporate and product metrics are identified, and the methodology for recent assessments is discussed
