Abstract :
Many security surveillance solutions include the employment of a large number of cameras to monitor areas of interest. Despite the benefits of large-scale camera-based surveillance systems, monitoring and controlling a large number of cameras can be problematic given the vast information that must ultimately be processed. In this paper, we present a visual-based three-dimensional graphical user interface scheme to efficiently control and monitor a large number of video surveillance cameras. The scheme consists of a virtual model interface of the environment being monitored where each camera in the real environment has a corresponding virtual camera in the virtual model. The operator can navigate through the virtual environment and control the real-world cameras by interacting and manipulating with their corresponding virtual representation.
