Abstract :
Saliva is gaining attention as a diagnostic fluid in replacing blood for diagnosing systemic diseases. Most of the molecules present in blood can also be detected in salivary secretion. Therefore it is believed that the changes in saliva are indicative of wellness of patient. Furthermore, it offers distinctive advantages over blood since it can be collected non-invasively without special training. However, in saliva, the molecule concentration is at much lower amount compared to blood. This used to limit the use of saliva for medical application. Now with Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS), which is capable of detection up to a single molecule, this problem can be surmounted. This paper describe the characterization of dried whole saliva sample prepared via drop coating deposition Raman (DCDR) method for Raman analysis. Three chosen substrates are used for sample deposition. The samples are characterized using field effect scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) to observe crystallization structure form as the evaporation takes place.
