Abstract
An autonomous, decentralized, steel-production process control system aimed at subsystem online expansion and online maintenance together with fault tolerance has been developed. Each subsystem´s software, consisting of the system software ACP and the application software, is autonomous. The subsystem software module is driven only by the correct and necessary process data received by the ACP. The resulting data are broadcast along with their content code. This autonomous data-driven mechanism makes it possible to test and repair the subsystem software module during the execution of other modules, since the modules can be independently set in the test mode. The application of this autonomous decentralized software structure to a steel production process control system is described.<>
