Abstract :
This paper presents an application of a multivariable self-tuning controller to a single machine infinite bus system. The controller is based on generalized predictive control (GPC) with constraints placed on the control signals. It provides supplementary control signals to the excitation system and the governor system to improve power system stability. Simulation studies, which include small disturbances and large disturbances, show the efficiency of the controller to damp low frequency oscillations in a power system
