Abstract :
The bathymetry data of the marine bodies have been collected worldwide over a century. These data have wide range of resolution and accuracy. The authors have attempted to correct the bathymetry data that have been collected without using GPS navigational systems with the help of the bathymetry data that have been collected with GPS. These two datasets were retrieved from GEODAS CD-ROM, which was published by the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC). These data covers the area, which is located south west of Oahu in the Pacific Ocean. The correction of non-GPS bathymetry data has been treated here as a nonlinear inverse problem. simulated annealing (SA) global optimization method was used in finding a good solution. Inverse distance weighted (IDW) interpolation method was used for forward modeling. The energy function for SA algorithm was defined as the sum of the square of the difference between the interpolated and the observed bathymetry at the horizontal position of the non GPS-bathymetry data points
