Abstract :
Summary form only given: due to the exponentially increasing amount of bandwidth carried in a single fiber and the emergence of versatile The advantages of photonic crystals over classical optical materials hold the promise of ultra-compact optical component to, for example, guide light and control the spontaneous emission. Nevertheless, the challenges faced by the photonic crystal community are numerous, ranging from understanding physical phenomena, to coupling concepts between components to their integration on a technologically-relevant platform. In this talk, we will describe our approach to integration of two components on silicon platforms. These are a waveguide and a 3D photonic crystal with light emitters. The latter has successfully been deposited on a silicon platform. The integration concept, 3D photonic crystals-based emitter sample design, preparation and characterisation, as well as integration tests will be described and discussed. A preliminary model of the relevant features in the reflectance spectrum will be introduced to describe optical properties of the integrated emitter, when it includes deterministic both light emitting particles and defects.
