Abstract :
In a classic adaptive MMSE equalizer, the structure (or the number of the free coefficients) and the decision delay are often fixed either to some compromise values or simply from experience, making it hard to achieve the best potential performance. In this paper, we propose a novel method to jointly adapt the tap-length and decision delay so that the best performance can be achieved with minimum tap-length and decision delay. The proposed approach needs little extra complexity. It describes an innovative way to implement the adaptive equalizer where not only the structure is optimized but also the decision delay is self tuned.
