Abstract :
An element common to all multi-sensor fusion systems is the need to bring data together from what may be a diverse range of sensors in a way that facilitates its combination into fusion products. This process is referred to as sensor integration. This paper describes a general, systematic way of achieving sensor integration using an approach based on the use of a service oriented architecture. The multi-sensor system is regarded as a network of devices each of which provides a standard range of services. These services include description of the data provided by the sensor and connection with another device. Examples of applications are given which include a diversity of sensors, such as microphones, cameras and a radar. An emphasis is given on the use of explicit description of data produced by sensors.
