Abstract :
The London Underground Jubilee Line runs from Stratford to Stanmore and includes some of the busiest sections of the London Underground network. The London Underground Jubilee Line signalling upgrade aims to reduce journey times by 22% and increase capacity by 33% [1]. Reduced journey times and increased capacity are achieved by the implementation of the Thales Transmission Based Train Control (TBTC) moving block signalling system SelTrac. This paper covers the technical and operational challenges faced in the implementation of a TBTC system on an existing revenue railway and how Performance Monitoring and Data Analysis were used to solve some of these issues. Performance monitoring and Data Analysis have been fundamental to the successful implementation. Through case studies the paper discusses the design of Performance Monitoring, root cause identification. Through Data Analysis and the performance improvements achieved. The paper also includes the future development of Performance Monitoring and Data Analysis to support the upgrade of the London Underground Northern Line. In making an assessment of Performance Monitoring and Data Analysis the paper includes a summary of the implementation methodology, Systems Engineering approach and performance of the London Underground Jubilee Line since implementation of the new signalling system.
