Abstract :
A comparison between an optical network node working under the circuit switching or the burst switching paradigms is made. Different statistical distributions for the generated traffic are analyzed and, by means of simulations, results on the node capacity are obtained. Finally, the performance of an optical node supporting simultaneously optical channels and optical bursts is evaluated.
