Abstract :
In this paper, the analysis of a three-phase self excited induction generator (SEIG) with static VAr compensator (STATCOM) supported with battery energy storage system has been presented. As compared to DC link capacitor provided with the STATCOM, battery energy storage improves system stability and prevents power wastage. This investigation relates to the behavior of the SEIG in presence of STATCOM, which is made to operate at different modulation index ´m´ and relative phase angle ´delta between the fundamental component of STATCOM and the SEIG output voltages. This gives a new insight to the behavior of the SEIG-STATCOM system when operated under open loop condition. The SEIG-STATCOM system is operated with a fixed load resistance and fixed excitation capacitor. The simulation results show the effects of variation in modulation index ´m´ and phase angle ´delta on the SEIG terminal voltage and frequency and average active and reactive power flow between the SEIG and STATCOM
