Abstract :
We propose a hybrid optical network model with optimised availability. The model assumes the use of dedicated wavelengths available in a DWDM system to transmit different kinds of traffic, as connection traffic for real time (voice, video) including radio-over-fibre, and connectionless packet traffic. Thus the whole available bandwidth can be fully exploited. We discuss how the optimised availability model complies with the ITU next generation networking and cybersecurity goals for the Study Period 2005-2008.
