Abstract :
This paper describes a new sensing system using multiple sensors. The proposed system is based on the principles of successive approximation and statistical estimation. The system is able to make an accurate measurement without using expensive sensors with high precision. This implies a better yield or low cost to the sensor manufacturers. The concept has been applied to the temperature measurement. A microcontroller based real time system is implemented and the results have shown that the multi-sensor system can produce much more accurate measurement than that of the conventional single-sensor system. A detailed theoretical analysis has been carried out and compared with the simulation and experiment results. Although the concept is demonstrated for the temperature measurement, it can be extended to the other measurands, provided that the sensors are available
