Abstract :
The transmission of light through arrays of sub-wavelength circular apertures is studied by solving Maxwell´s equation using fast integral equation methods in the time domain. The various types of transmission, generated by the interaction of adjacent holes and/or intra-hole resonance are investigated and their dependence upon the geometrical parameters demonstrated. A perfect conductor model is employed, indicating that ´surface plasmon´ effects are not required to explain the transmission, which is rather a consequence of the interaction of the wave field with the geometry.
