Abstract
The author gives examples of where, on a recent large production project with an extremely tight client startup schedule, the use of proper inspection and testing procedures ensured the project´s successful startup ahead of the client´s schedule. The factory inspection and witness tests that should be performed on electrical equipment are discussed, and field testing and checkout of equipment are considered. Cases of the problems uncovered are highlighted to show the user the types of problems that can be uncovered by proper specifications for inspection and testing of certain electrical equipment. It is concluded that discovering equipment defects at the earliest stage can improve project schedule performance markedly, and that proper timing of on-site testing can ensure contractor performance as well as detect damage or errors in installation.<>
