Abstract :
Accidents related to biomedical equipment are usually reported to the safety committee in Lebanese Hospitals. The Lebanese standards do not mention a word about the expert involved in investigation and reporting of such accidents. This duty is still vague and sometimes included in the job description of the safety officer (usually a nurse), who is not necessary involved in the domain of biomedical engineering and technology management. Medical device accidents are among the most serious adverse events in healthcare. The study emphasizes to develop a profile of a “biomedical accident investigator”, with clear Job description, educational skills and needed training, fields of expertise. Authors aim also to highlight the key steps needed for an effective investigation and standardize the investigation process applicable to most technologies.
