Abstract :
High speed transport protocols are expected to effectively and aggressively use large bandwidth in broadband and multimedia networks. However, their aggressive flows can consume most of the available bandwidth if they are employed in elephant flows such as peer-to-peer flows. Due to insufficient consideration of fairness, this use degrades the quality of services and can cause congestion in networks. In this paper, therefore, we propose a method to improve fairness, called Kyushu-TCP (KTCP), which considers friendliness between high speed transport protocols and standard TCP. This method improves fairness in terms of the throughput by making bandwidth available to other flows. Furthermore, we show the effectiveness of the proposed method through simulations.
