Abstract :
A novel network topology for the distribution of video contributions from production centres and mobile reporters offering bandwidth on demand is presented. The network also offers multi-service capabilities by assigning different QoS classes to the services that are being transmitted. By means of an advanced allocation protocol and tuneable optical equipment, the network can optimize the use of the available bandwidth depending on the traffic shape and also on the priorities of the traffic to be transmitted. This network topology is suitable for MAN but can be extended to a nation-wide scenario. Network dimensioning simulations and mathematical analysis confirm the good performance and feasibility of the proposal.
