Abstract :
In this paper we trace the confusion in the field to inappropriate use of effective-media theories to characterize the transistors/sensors, and show that a ´bottom-up´ view allows intuitive understanding of these devices as an elementary illustrations of stick-percolation theory (generalized to nonlinear regime) and diffusion-limited aggregation (generalized to transient regime). Our approach guides technology optimization, and in the process - as experimental testbeds - illuminates subtleties of stick-percolation theory and fractal geometry.
