Abstract :
Third-order optical nonlinearities for a new series of alkynyl ruthenium complexes has been studied using pump-dependent transmission experiment and the degenerate four-wave mixing technique. We show a dramatic enhancement of the molecular cubic hyperpolarizability in these systems. The alkynyl ruthenium derivatives were embedded in polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) and polyvinylcarbazole (PVK) polymer matrix. The influence of the polymer matrix is crucial for the behaviour of the temporary kinetics in the Ru-containing chromophore. The more polarized PVK matrix plays an important role in the observed dependences. Location organometallic compounds into PMMA matrix have favourably influence the value of third optical susceptibility. The largest value was obtained for compound 4 χ<3> = 4.06 × 10-19 m2/V2 in PMMA matrix. Kinetics of third order nonlinear optical properties in alkynyl ruthenium complexes incorporated in PVK and PMMA matrices will be discussed.
