Abstract
Traditionally corona losses are associated with the space gradient of electrostatic field normal to the surface of a current carrying conductor. However the longitudinal component of the field responsible for the existence of electric current may be disturbed as a result of corona discharge. It may lead to the local increase of electric current and correspondingly to the additional power losses. The article describes physics of this effect on qualitative level.
