  • Abstract
The finite volume method (FVM) is implemented to simulate logging-while-drilling (LWD) tools in axisymmetric multilayered earth formations. A complex-frequency-shifted perfectly matched layer (CFS-PML) in cylindrical coordinates is incorporated, leading to a smaller condition number for the FVM system matrix and allowing for iterative solvers to be used in large scale problems. FVM results are validated against pseudo-analytical and numerical mode matching (NMM) solutions
