Abstract :
A code replacement technique and tool were proposed in this paper, which can be used in embedded systems to fulfill the needs, module updating and debugging and defects modifying and otherwise, and promised that never disturb the system´s routine running. The technique could be used in critical application areas for module updating and debugging, also some special areas which had some other requirement when updating and debugging. Through the argumentation and development of prototype, some conclusions could be drew safely: the first, meeting the requirement associated with the real-time response and having none or little bad impact to the system; the second,the complicated and resource-consumed operations were placed at host, so the technique didn´t depend the target machine´s capability much and could be used for almost all the embedded systems which had more or less resource and processing capability.
