Abstract :
We fabricate 2D Si photonic crystal slabs having large photonic band gap (PBG) by using SOI substrate, and investigate various types of line defect waveguides. We demonstrate successful structural tuning of defects to obtain desired waveguiding modes within PBG and experimentally show that they have extremely large group dispersion and the speed of light is slowed down to 1/100 of that in air
