Abstract :
Network infrastructures for modern telecommunications and cloud service providers face a unique series of challenges. These services require networks which can respond dynamically to changes in workload or traffic profiles, and automate cloud network provisioning and commissioning,. This enables cost effective service offerings and also provides new revenue stream opportunities. This paper describes results of a software defined network (SDN) testbed which combines data center switching, long distance optical networking, and other functions under a common network controller. We demonstrate rapid reprovisioning and reuse of network resources (dynamic wavelength assignment) in response to changing application requirements, resource pooling, and other benefits of this approach.
