Abstract
Students from the University of Virginia School of Engineering and Applied Science have partnered with the Charlottesville Redevelopment and Housing Authority to structure a plan to revitalize the Westhaven public housing project. Enhancing a systems engineering-based framework with participatory design principles, the team intends to engage residents in the planning process to optimize the final physical product and enhance the sense of community and empowerment among residents.
