  • Abstract
The authors analyze data from a power distribution system in which a 196-ft vertical section of busway was saturated with water following the rupture of nearby mechanical system piping. An attempt was made to remove the moisture, and periodic insulation integrity tests were performed as the drying process continued. The damaged busway system and the circumstances surrounding the incident are described. The data taken during the moisture removal process are presented in tabular form and analyzed, and preliminary conclusions are presented. The moisture drying process has been shown, in this instance, to be a feasible alternative to total bus duct system replacement. The data analysis shows that a rapid improvement in the measured resistive properties of insulating materials can be observed within two days. A four-day time period is shown to be necessary for acceptable recovery of the system.<>
