Abstract
We have demonstrated the dependence of dispersion tolerance on extinction ratio of the clock modulator in conventional CS-RZ modulators. We have also proposed a new configuration for CS-RZ modulator, which uses a notch filter to suppress the residual carrier component of the signal. With this configuration the effect of extinction ratio on dispersion tolerance is reduced and we can use modulators with extinction ratios of 10 dB to achieve dispersion tolerance comparable to that obtained with the conventional scheme having a high extinction ratio of clock modulator
